Our Products
The Mission Marketplace features hand crafted items from more than 30 countries around the world, including Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Products include clothing, musical instruments, wood and stone carvings, toys, jewelry, textiles, accent furniture, wall hangings, and more. The Mission Marketplace staff seeks out products made from materials and processes that are sensitive to the environment. Our suppliers monitor trends in North America to identify opportunities for the craftspeople and provide suggestions for handicrafts they could make using local materials and skills.
The purpose of Fair Trade is very different from large commercial companies: The Mission Marketplace buys handicrafts to provide work and income for unemployed or underemployed people, rather than to make a profit. They buy products because they think they can be resold to help the artisans earn a decent living.
The Mission Marketplace buys crafts from organizations in some of the world’s most disadvantaged countries. They search out artisan groups who are struggling to find markets for their products. These groups provide employment for those who are underemployed because of disability, gender, or ethnicity.
