Volunteering
Volunteers are the lifeblood of The Mission Marketplace. The Mission Marketplace relies on it's volunteers for the day-to-day success of the store. The friendly, fun-loving, energetic group of volunteers who have commited themselves and devoted their time, effort and energy to promote the principles of Fair Trade ensure the hope, dignity and living wages of talented artisans and their families living in lesser-developed countries around the world. Volunteers are the faces of our artisan partners to socially conscious shoppers in the Chelsea and surrounding communities.
We're also always looking fo Volunteer Board of Directors Members.
All volunteers will be asked to go through a training orientation. We encourage you to visit the store 2-3 times to learn more about our organization and merchandise. You will begin working on the floor greeting customers, learning the artisan's stories and helping with the inventory. Additional training to staff the cash registers may be offered when you are better acquainted with our store.
Schedules can be designed to meet your needs - we try to be flexible to your calendar. Volunteers can contribute to any number of functions within The Mission Marketplace structure.
Volunteers should:
- Be able to commit to a 3-4 hour shift, 2-4 times a month.
- Be able to work independently.
- Possess social skills that include dealing with customers and fellow volunteers.
- Exhibit proficiency and accuracy once trained on the registers.
- Dependably show up for their assigned hours and take their commitment to the store seriously.
Please print the application* and bring in a hard copy and introduce yourself. We can then discuss with you how you might contribute and the date and time of our next training.
